Qatari Diar pushes regional plans

24 March 2006
Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company has started the detailed masterplanning for its proposed luxury tourism development in Morocco, after the appointment of US-based Wimberley Allison Tong & Goo (WATG) as the design consultant. The project is the most advanced of four developments Qatari Diar is planning across the region (Real Estate Qatar, MEED Special Report, 27:1:06).
Located at Qassaba near Tangiers, the scope of works includes construction of a five-star hotel resort, golf course, retail area and conference centre. To be developed on a 230-hectare site, project costs are initially estimated at $170 million. Site preparation work is expected to begin by the end of the year.

Qatari Diar is in negotiations with a consultant to carry out a detailed masterplan for its proposed 200-hectare eco-tourism project at Ras al-Hadd in Oman. The project will include several hotels, an exhibition centre, a golf course and entertainment facilities. Qatari Diar is in the early stages of developing two projects in Egypt. The first, in partnership with Qatar National Hotels Company (QNHC), will be developed on the site of the existing Thomas Cook building on the banks of the Nile. A second resort is planned in Sharm al-shaikh on the Sinai peninsula. The company has also acquired a stake in a health spa development firm in Thailand.
