New finance minister appointed chairman of regions largest bank
Qatar National Bank has announced that Ali Shareef al-Emadi has been appointed chairman following his appointment as finance minister as part of a government reshuffle by the new emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.
Al-Emadi was previously chief executive of QNB, the largest bank in the Middle East by assets. The bank has not announced whether a new chief executive will be appointed.
Al-Emadi replaces Yousef Hussain Kamal, who was previously both chairman of QNB and finance minister. The bank is 50 per cent owned by the government through sovereign wealth fund, Qatar Investment Authority.
