Kuwait's Al-Shaya Group will reveal the list of prequalified bidders to build the $260m 70-storey Gate of Kuwait tower next week.

The 270m-tall tower will be one of the capital’s tallest buildings.

Companies expected to prequalify include the locals Ahmadiah Trading & Contracting and Mohammed Abdulmohsin al-Kharafi & Sons.

South Korean company GS Engineering & Construction is also thought to be among the prequalifiers.

Gate of Kuwait has been designed by a South African/local team of GLH Partnership and KEO International Consultants (MEED 28:10:05).

The development, which is located at one of the gates to Kuwait City’s old wall, will have a built-up area of 127,000 square metres and will include a five-star luxury hotel, offices, a conference centre and 5,000 sqm of retail space.

The local Al-Bahar Construction for Trading & Contracting Company has started work on the excavation, shoring and dewatering works package (MEED 01:07:05).
