French engineering company selected to rehabilitate Algiers refinery
Algeria’s Sonatrach has awarded France’s Technip the $920m contract to rehabilitate the Algiers refinery in the North African state.
Sonatrach announced on its website that Technip will carry out the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the 60,000 barrels-a-day refinery revamp.
The scope of works includes design and construction of a new naphtha hydrotreating unit and a control room, the rehabilitation of the utilities, study, design and construction of a new process water drain network and a new pumping station.
The project has been delayed for some months due to the corruption scandal that has engulfed Sonatrach, Africa’s largest company (MEED 17:1:10).
Technip declined to comment on the project when contacted by MEED.
