Abu Dhabi-based Strata Manufacturing, a wholly owned subsidiary of Mubadala that focuses on aerostructures manufacturing, will implement a robotics system in its operations assembly unit.

According to Strata, the robotics system will be used for a process that includes drilling, reaming and countersinking – key activities in the production of aircraft components.

Ismail Ali Abdulla, CEO of Strata Manufacturing, said automating production capabilities with the use of robotics alongside employees “will offer greater efficiency advantages for our global customers”.

Dubai-based Digi Robotics Technologies (DGWorld) is the contractor for the Strata production line robotics system.

“Once the process is qualified, the robotics system will be integrated into Strata’s production line that develops composite aerostructures for major aircraft manufacturers,” Strata said in a statement.

Established in 2009, Strata manufactures various parts for Airbus, Boeing and ATR aircraft. They include:

• Airbus A330 family flap track fairings
• Airbus A330 family ailerons
• Airbus A330 family spoilers
• Airbus A350 – 900 family flap support fairings
• Airbus A350 – 1,000 family flap support fairings
• Airbus A350 – 900 family inboard flaps
• Airbus A380 family flap track fairings
• ATR 42/72 rudder
• ATR 42/72 vertical fin
• Boeing B777 empennage ribs
• Boeing B787 vertical fin rib

In 2016, Strata won two contracts from France’s Airbus worth in excess of $1bn for the supply and assembly of additional composite aerostructures.

Strata agreed to supply Airbus with composite materials for the horizontal tail plane (HTP) of the Airbus A320 as well as inboard flaps (IBF) for the A350-900.
