Contract covers new Constantine tram
Algiers Metro Company has issued a tender for the construction of an extension to the new tramway in the Algerian town of Constantine.
The extension covers the Zouaghi to Mohamed Boudiaf airport link and the Zouaghi-Mejeli line. The deadline for bids is 17 August.
Work on the Constantine tram started in 2007 and is due to enter operations in July or August this year.
It will be operated by a joint venture (JV) between RATP Dev, a subsidiary of the French RATP Group, and Setram.
The JV also operates the new Oran tramway, which started operations on 1 May.
The original Constantine tram scheme stretches for 9 kilometres from Zouaghi through the city’s own town and to the Ben Abdelmalek station. It has 11 stations, two viaducts and an underpass for urban traffic.
