A key person driving the development of Oman’s tourism sector
Wael Al-Lawati

Biography: Wael al-Lawati is CEO of state-backed Oman Tourism Development Company (Omran).
The firm is developing facilities for the upcoming Asian Beach Games and the Oman convention and exhibition centre. Al-Lawati is also a board member of Yiti Tourism Development Company, Muriya Tourism Development Company and the Sifah Tourism Development Company.
Previously, Al-Lawati was deputy CEO of the Wave project, the first freehold tourism and residential development in Oman. In addition to his role at Omran, Al-Lawati is the vice-chairman of the Middle East executive committee of the Urban Land Institute.
He is a founding member of the Oman unit of the Young Arab Leaders organisation. Al-Lawati has a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering and obtained a qualification in real estate, hotel design and development from Cornell University in the US.
