Biography: Yousef Kamal was appointed chairman of the QFCA after its establishment in 2005. The QFCA is the commercial arm of Qatar Financial Centre (QFC), the body that acts as an entry point for international banks looking to do business in Qatar.
As chairman, Kamal is responsible for leading the overall development of the QFC. He also serves as Qatar’s economy & finance minister, a position he has held since 1998. He is secretary general of the Supreme Council of Economic Affairs and Investment and chairman of Qatar National Bank, Qatar Steel and RasGas.
In addition, he is vice-chairman of Qatar Petroleum, Industries Qatar and Qatari Diar. Kamal started his career in 1973 as section chief in the department of financial affairs at the then finance and petroleum ministry. He has a degree in business administration from Cairo University.
