Biography: Ali Saleh al-Barrak has devoted his entire career to the Saudi power sector.
In 1979, he joined the Saudi House for Advisory Services tasked with organising the restructuring of the Saudi electricity industry. He joined the Saudi Consolidated Electric Company in 1980, where he was promoted to regional vice-president in 1987.
Following the merger of the kingdom’s electric utility companies into the Saudi Electricity Company, Al-Barrak managed electricity affairs in the central region from 2001-02. In July 2002, he was appointed executive vice-president for distribution and customer services.
He graduated with a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Colorado in the US in 1979. He is involved in advising a variety of bodies including the board of the Arab Union of Producers, Transporters & Distributors of Electricity.
