GlobalData has announced the latest updates to its Financial and Legal Adviser League Tables, which rank advisers by the total value and volume of merger and acquisition (M&A) deals they advised on in the oil and gas sector in 2024.
Citi and Jefferies were the top M&A financial advisers in the sector in 2024 by value and volume, respectively, according to GlobalData.
An analysis of GlobalData's Deals Database has revealed that Citi achieved its leading position in terms of value by advising on $60.8bn-worth of deals. Meanwhile, Jefferies led in terms of volume by advising on a total of 23 deals.
Aurojyoti Bose, lead analyst at GlobalData, said: “Jefferies registered improvement in the total number of deals [on which it advised], and its ranking by volume also improved from the seventh position in 2023 to the top position in 2024.”
He added that “some of the deals [on which Jefferies advised] were big-ticket deals, which helped it secure the third position by value, as well".
"During 2024, Jefferies advised on 11 billion-dollar deals that also included one mega deal valued at more than $10bn.
“Meanwhile, Citi advised on two such mega deals during the year, which were instrumental for it in securing the top position by value in 2024,” he added.
“Apart from leading by value, Citi also held the sixth position by volume during the year.”
JP Morgan occupied the second position in terms of value, by advising on $54bn-worth of deals, followed by Jefferies with $50.8bn, Goldman Sachs with $44bn and Evercore with $42.8bn.
Meanwhile, Evercore occupied the second position in terms of volume with 18 deals, followed by Royal Bank of Canada with 18 deals, Piper Sandler with 14 deals and Barclays with 12 deals.
GlobalData also revealed that in October 2024, Citi and Jefferies were the top M&A financial advisers in Q1-Q3 2024 by value and volume, respectively.
Citi achieved the top position in terms of value by advising on $53bn-worth of deals. Meanwhile, Jefferies led in terms of volume by advising on a total of 15 deals.
