One of the most prominent people in the regions low-cost aviation sector
Marwan Boodai
Company: Jazeera Airways
Position: Chairman and CEO
Biography: Marwan Boodai established Jazeera Airways in 2005 as the Middle East’s first privately owned scheduled airline.
One of Kuwait’s foremost entrepreneurs, the low-cost carrier is the latest and largest of several private ventures to break state-owned monopolies, leading to a new phase of growth in the transport sector.
In the 1990s, Boodai supervised the restructuring and transformation of Boodai Corporation from a medium-sized family business into a major conglomerate. This culminated in the establishment of City Bus in 2001, which was the only non-government-owned public transportation company in Kuwait.
Since beginning operations, Jazeera Airways has expanded rapidly, flying to 23 destinations in the Middle East. In 2007, the airline placed an order for 34 new aircraft, which will increase its fleet sixfold.
