Michael Ryan

Biography: Michael Ryan joined QFCRA as deputy CEO and managing director responsible for legal and policy affairs in 2009. In March 2012, he was appointed as CEO, replacing Phillip Thorpe, as part of a wider management reshuffle.

Ryan is now tasked with taking QFCRA through its next phase of growth as Qatar tries to attract foreign investment and develop local capital markets. He is a member of the National Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Committee and sits on the board of the QFCRA.

Ryan previously worked at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where he served in senior positions, including country head for Ireland. Prior to this, he worked as a vice-president at Credit Suisse Financial Products in New York and was an associate at US law firm Cadwalader, Wickershan & Taft. Ryan has also served on the financial services advisory committee for the Irish prime minister.
