Description: PDO partnered with GlassPoint Solar to build the Middle East’s first solar EOR project. The project delivered its first steam in December 2012 and was completed on schedule, on budget and with no lost time injuries. The 7MW system recently completed its first year of operations, generating an average of 50 tonnes of emissions-free steam a day and exceeding its targets. The pilot solar EOR facility reduces the amount of natural gas used for oil production at PDO’s Amal West oil field in southern Oman, and serves as a performance and operational baseline for future large-scale projects throughout the Gulf region.
