Software to be installed at roads monitoring centre

Qatar’s Public Works Authority (Ashghal) is seeking specialised consultancy and systems integrators by 12 March for a contract to design, develop, procure, install, commission, operate and maintain an intelligent transport system (ITS).

The software-driven system will be installed at the roads assets management centre (RAMC), which is located on the ground floor of the under-construction headquarters building of the Asset Affairs division of Ashghal.

The software sought will support and integrate all existing and future ITS implementations within Ashghal. It is also envisaged to enable control room operators to manage, monitor and maintain the road networks and assets within the responsibility of Ashghal ”24 hours a day, 365 days a year.”

According to the tender document, the intelligence within the software will fuse ITS/ICT (information and communications technology) sub-systems to “provide a higher level of understanding to monitor and control the road network through the implementation of predefined response plans.”

The system is expected to present control room supervisors and operators with data from individual ITS/ICT sub-systems and other roads-related ICT asset management systems through a consolidated operator interface.

The selected contractor will manage all stakeholder engagement for ITS interfaces to various agencies and their IT systems including but not limited to:

  • Lusail Smart City
  • Salwa-Dukhan control room
  • Tunnels
  • Traffic signal control room (TSCR)
  • Field ITS devices
  • Ministry of Transportation and Communications
  • Ministry of Interior
  • PWA (Ashghal) business systems

The RAMC is envisaged as the future hub for all road assets-related issues and coordinate road asset activities. It is to “operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to deliver real-time roads network assets management, operations and maintenance.” It will also provide tools to quickly and safely respond to and manage incidents and events that may affect the roads network.
