Indian contractor will build amenities for first phase of Barwa City development
Local developer Barwa Real Estate has awarded a QR676m contract ($186m) to India’s Shapoorji Pallonji to build amenities for the first phase of the estimated QR4.89bn Barwa City development.
Shapoorji will build 13 buildings, which include a mosque, bank, school and a multi-purpose park.
The first phase of the development will consist of 6,000 residential units in addition to utilities and infrastructure features, which include a district cooling plant. In 2007, Germany’s Bilfinger Berger was awarded the contract to build the residences and community facilities (MEED 4:5:07).
US-based Aecom is the consultant.
The project is part of Qatar’s plan to invest $20bn on new roads and related drainage and infrastructure in the next five years (MEED 3:6:10).
