Plan to build two additional ring roads in Kuwait City was first announced in 2012
Turkeys Proyapi has won the contract to study, design and supervise the rehabilitation, construction and maintenance of the 2ndand 3rd Ring roads in Kuwait City, including a flyover on Damascus Street.
Five other firms submitted an offer for the contract. They include:
- CDM Smith (US/Germany)
- Engineering Consultants Group (ECG; Egypt)
- Ineco (Spain)
- Parsons Brinckerhoff / WSP (US)
- SMEC (Australia)
The plan to construct the second and third ring roads in Kuwait City was first announced in 2012. It was cancelled two years later but was revived in 2016.
Over $6.6bn-worth of road projects in Kuwait are under procurement with a further $2.6bn being planned, according to data from regional projects tracker MEED Projects.
In 2017 to date, $2.26bn-worth of road contracts have been awarded, which corresponds to 26 per cent of the total value of contracts awarded in 2016.
