Dubai awards Tripoli Road construction deal

26 February 2017

The 12-kilometre road scheme will provide a link between Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road

Dubai’s Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded India’s Larsen & Toubro (L&T) the estimated AED500m ($136m) contract to upgrade Tripoli Road in the Mirdif area of Dubai.

L&T submitted the lowest bid when offers were submitted in September last year. The other bidders were Beijing-based China State Construction Engineering Corporation, the local National Construction Transport Company (NCTC), the local Wade Adams, and the local Emirates Road Contracting.

The road provides a link between Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road. The first past of the project is the widening of Tripoli Road over a 6.5 km stretch from the intersection with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road next to Mirdif City Centre up to Academic City Road. The second part of the project is the construction of a new 5.3 km highway with three lanes in each direction from the intersection of the Academic City up to the Emirates Road.

The consultant is Aurecon.

The project also creates a parallel and supporting corridor to the AED490m Airport Road Improvement Project, for which the RTA awarded the construction contract to the local/Australian HLG Contracting.
